Spring is that special season that really feels like a fresh start. Flowers are blooming, evenings start getting warmer and days become longer – it’s just the time of the year that makes me want to embrace the beautiful energy that comes with the new season.

I find that Springtime in Marbella is especially stunning, as there are special places like the Hotel Marbella Club or Hotel Puente Romano where architecture and nature blend together seamlessly. As I look back at these photos from a Galia Lahav photoshoot we did with Confeti Magazine in the spectacular Villa del Mar in the Marbella Club Hotel, I feel very fortunate for having travelled and worked in so many stunning places around the world, and now they have become a source of inspiration for all areas of my life, especially interior design.

So, as I’m looking forward to those warmer upcoming months, I’ve been inspired to come up with a few home decor ideas and tips to make your home come alive for the Spring!
I. THE SPRING CLEAN OUT
It seems like such a good idea at the very start, doesn’t it? But once you’re swimming in piles of things you’ve had for over 100 years and you are past the point of no return, it suddenly isn’t so exciting anymore… But hang in there! Because once you’re done it feels so great, like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders! Plus, now that Spring is just around the corner, I think it’s the perfect time to start!
Starting from my wardrobe, I like taking everything out to start fresh, separating what needs to be put away until next Winter – although I do keep a few lighter pieces of warmer clothes for those sudden temperature drops that tend to happen throughout March and April. I like to sort into piles the items that no longer fit/have shrunk in the wash, and another for donating as I no longer wear them. It makes getting dressed in the morning so much more of a breeze when you actually can see the items you truly love and wear on a regular basis!
Regarding the kitchen, it isn’t a place that needs doing all too often, but it’s always nice to find time to go through the things you want to keep or throw away, tidy up the drawers, cupboards and the pantry, and organize in beautiful jars the pasta, rice, nuts and spices, which makes cooking so much more enjoyable on a day to day basis. I’ve found that creating a beautiful and organized pantry keeps me more motivated and inspired to come up with new recipes to try out!
II SPRING FRAGRANCE
I have a tendency to take home fragrances quite seriously, as I notice that personally my mood can change from mellow to energetic depending on the scent of an environment. For the Spring Clean, it’s time to put away the deep and rich Winter scents to the back of the cupboard ready for next year, and bring out the fresh, flowery and happy fragrances of this season. Apart from candles and diffusers, I love using my favourite Spring cleaning fragrance and spritz the soft furnishings with my fabric spray as a finishing touch. I also like to change up the hand wash in the bathrooms to suit the season’s ambience. The Spring fragrance I’ve been recently loving has been the Jo Malone Basil and Neroli, which I always get compliments on whenever guests wash their hands in the powder room!
III. FLOWER FRESHEN UP
In case you haven’t noticed, I absolutely adore flowers, so naturally I find them to be an essential part of the seasonal change in your home. As I noted before, Southern Spain is especially stunning at this time of the year, as flowers start blooming and the natural beauty comes alive in a typical Andalusian surrounding. I love to incorporate this same natural beauty into my home with a fresh bouquet of flowers of peonies, liliums, hydrogeans or tulips.

However, as much as I love to treat myself to a fresh bunch of flowers, they do have their downside and keeping the feeling alive when they die too quickly isn’t easy. Therefore, hence my love for fresh flowers, I have turned more and more to indoor plants to incorporate more liveliness and joy into my home, and the ones from my sister’s new company Plantas Boutique are absolutely stunning (if you’re in the Santiago, Chile region, be sure to check them out!). Here are some of my favourite indoor plants:
IV. SWITCH UP THE FABRICS
Spring is all about awakening, so now’s the perfect time to freshen up your bedroom for the warmer months with some new bedding. I personally love white bedding all year round, but especially in Spring and Summer, because it makes a master bedroom or guest bedroom feel calm and cool. I like to incorporate colour or texture with decorative cushions and throws at the end of the bed, in natural neutral tones, or even adding a hint of colour with coral, mint green or a cool pattern! This also applies for the living area, where you can put away the heavy faux fur throws and cable knit blankets, and replace them with lighter fabrics such as cotton or linen.
Et voilá! You’re ready to embrace Springtime! If it sounds like a lot of work, that’s because it is, but it’s wonderful when you reach the end of this list and admire the wonderful freshness of your beautiful home!
